Obituary

The family of Mr. Isaac Hyneman, of Richmond, Va., have lately met with a severe affliction in the loss of his brother, and his second surviving son. Those who have themselves been visited with such sad bereavements, can best sympathize with the mourners. We subjoin the record:—Died, at Richmond, July 2d, after a brief illness, Herman Hyneman, in his 25th year. At the same place, August 8th, after an illness of but one day, Simeon, son of Isaac and Adeline Hyneman, in the 7th year of his age.—May the Lord visit the survivors  with further exemption from sorrow.

Since our last, another worthy Israelite has disappeared from among the living; we allude to Miss Hetty Etting, sister to the late Solomon Etting, who departed unto eternity on the evening of 13th September. Those who enjoyed her acquaintance, and they were many, will readily acknowledge that a void has been left in a circle where her unpretending virtues, and unostentatious piety, shed so bright a lustre. None knew her but to love her when living, and though dead she will dwell in the memory of many, as a pleasing realization of female excellence, and an exemplification of Jewish piety.—May her portion be with the righteous.

The prevailing epidemic at New Orleans, has, as we learn, struck down many Israelites, and among them has fallen a youth in the fullness of hopes of a useful life. We copy from the N. O. Commercial Times, of Sept. 8th:—“Died, in this city, on Friday, the 3d of September, of yellow fever, Jacob Emanuel, son of Moses Emanuel, of Grundstadt, Germany, aged 15 years and 8 months.

“In the death of Jacob Emanuel, a youth who had nearly completed his sixteenth year, a most painful void has been created in the extensive circle of his devoted friends. His many virtues and rare powers of mind were manifested to an extraordinary degree, until the very hour in which his soul took flight. He fell a martyr to the unusual strength of a bright genius, over a delicate physical development. That his soul may rest in peace with the great Source whence it sprung, fervently pray a host of friends who mourn his untimely fate. He sank into his long repose at the very moment when the Sabbath of his faith was ushered in. May he rest in pence until the great awakening of ages, when all days shall be Sabbaths of the Lord.”
